A young man crashed his car violently into parked trucks at an A1 rest stop last night. He was killed in the process.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, shortly after 8 pm at the Kölliken-Süd A1 service station. Truck drivers who had parked their vehicles in the parking lot heard a bang and discovered that a car had crashed violently into the back of two semi-trailers.

Police and the rescue service quickly arrived at the scene and found a person in the massively demolished shipwreck for whom help arrived too late.

Cantonal police were able to identify the deceased as a 22-year-old Swiss from the Basel area. As the driver of an Audi, he had left the A1 in the direction of Zurich and hit the trailer at high speed.

Due to the force of yesterday’s impact, the Audi was jammed underneath and both trailers were seriously damaged.

Initial investigations by Aargau cantonal police indicate that the 22-year-old drove into the truck with suicidal intent. The ZofingenKulm prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.

The recovery and cleaning work lasted until the early hours of the morning. Until then, the police blocked access to the rest area.
