Donald Trump and his long trail of Covid-19 infections: where the president of the United States has traveled in recent days and with whom he was in close contact. A short chronicle.

The Covid diagnosis came to Donald Trump amid the stressful run up to the US elections. On Friday he announced that he had contracted the coronavirus. A few days earlier, he met with high-ranking officials and dueled Joe Biden in the first televised debate.

An overview shows where the president has traveled in the past week and with whom he has been in close contact.

September 26: The rose garden and the electoral campaign.

On Saturday, September 26, Trump invites Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the unveiling ceremony in the Rose Garden of the White House. She is Trump’s favorite to succeed Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. More than 100 people participate in the outdoor event.

It can be seen in photos and videos that very few participants wear a mask or keep their distance. There are also hands that happily shake.

Even before the garden ceremony, there was a joyous date in the rooms of the White House.

The rose garden event was possibly a highly publicized event. Seven participants have tested positive for Covid-19: in addition to Trump and First Lady Melania, these are:

  • Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s former adviser
  • Thom Tillis, Republican Senator
  • Mike Lee, Republican Senator
  • John Jenkins, priest and president of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana
  • Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey

Everyone sat in the front rows of the event.

September 29: The debate

Neither Trump nor Biden wear a mask during the debate. When at the end of the duel the two wives are allowed to congratulate their husbands on stage, Jill Biden wears a mask and Melania does not. Other members of the Trump family sitting in the audience also prefer not to wear a mask. This despite the fact that local medical authorities had demanded a strict mask requirement for the debate.

It is difficult to reconstruct in hindsight when exactly other close Trump contacts became infected with the corona virus. Three other Trump employees are now known to have been infected with Covid-19. They all attended the debate in Cleveland that night.

  • Nick Luna, White House Physician
  • Bill Stepien, Campaign Manager
  • Hope Hicks, PR-Beraterin

In the evening, Trump returns to Washington on his plane.

He returns to Washington that same day and gives an interview to Fox News. In it he says that he has already had a PCR test and that he expects the result the same afternoon or the next morning. In the evening, he tweeted that he would go into quarantine with the first lady.

What Trump retained earlier in the “Fox News” interview is that he did a quick test before the broadcast and it came back positive.
