During the climate protest at the Bundesplatz, national councilors Sibel Arslan (Greens) and Andreas Glarner (SVP) clashed in a heated discussion. Just because things don’t work out for you, you complain all the time. Just listen to what they have to say, ”the Basel woman told her colleague on the council. The latter replied, “That’s law and order, Mrs. Arschlan.”
An insult to Arslan’s management in front of the cameras? Or rather a slip of the tongue in the heat of the moment? In any case, Glarner adds one more point: “That didn’t exist in your state, but it exists here.” – “Take that back!”, Arslan replies, visibly upset. “I’m Swiss, in case you haven’t noticed.”
When asked for “20 Minuten”, Glarner said that the pronunciation “Arschlan” was not actually intended. He thinks the green politician’s “country of origin” statement is unproblematic: “She is a dual Swiss-Turkish citizen. Of course, she reacts sensitively when you say that law and order do not prevail in her home country. ”

After the Glarner mob, the left doesn’t want to just get back on the agenda. On the contrary. The vice president and national councilor of the SP, Ada Marra, asks Aargauer to resign as president of the State Political Commission. Her behavior is unworthy. The Greens have a similar opinion. Through Twitter, they say that Glarner’s racist and insulting comment must have consequences.
Even in the SVP, individuals follow a course of confrontation with the hard line. Young Zurich politician Michael Frauchiger attacks Glarner harshly and also writes about racism.
Glarner, for his part, accuses the left of a double standard and refers to a statement by the SP national councilor, Jacqueline Badran, who called him “de huärä fucking Glarner” during a live radio broadcast on the Bundesplatz. Badran had been annoyed that demands by climate protesters were given too little space and instead made a story of outrage over the occupation.
