The Swiss National Bank (SNB) again made a high profit last year. According to provisional calculations, it reached an annual profit of 21,000 million Swiss francs in the year Corona 2020.
In 2019, however, the benefit was much higher. At that time, the SNB posted a net profit of nearly 49 billion Swiss francs. The federal government and the cantons will also benefit from the new annual benefit: they will receive a total distribution of four billion francs.
Profit from booming stock markets
One third of the amount to be distributed goes to the Confederation and two thirds to the cantons. After payments have been made, the distribution reserve will amount to about 94 billion Swiss francs.
The gain is not surprising. During the first nine months of the year, the SNB had already made a profit of 15.1 billion Swiss francs. According to UBS economists, the SNB is likely to have benefited significantly from the rebound in global equity markets in its equity portfolio in the fourth quarter. (SDA / vnf)
