This is Corona’s hotspot in Germany, and 400 protesters chant through the city
In the Hildburghausen district with the highest number of infections in Germany, even stricter rules have been in place since Wednesday. However, around 400 people marched through the city district that night, singing. Not only the mayor is in awe.
In Hildburghausen, in the German state of Thuringia, around 400 people marched through the city singing at an unregistered rally. The scenes trigger outrage and misunderstanding locally and nationally – it’s the circle in which, according to RKI figures, the corona virus is spreading like nowhere else. It was the first in Germany to break the seven-day incidence of 527 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a new color with pink had to be introduced on the RKI map. Since Wednesday, in reality, there is a strict regulation to reduce any physical contact outside the members of the house to the minimum absolutely necessary.
Images and videos of the parade of people chanting “Oh, how beautiful is that” quickly spread on social media. Ordnungsamt and the police were on duty, according to the MDR, the police had 40 officers. According to eyewitness reports, they remained in the background. People had gathered in the town’s market square and then left together, mostly without distance or masks.
Hildburghausen’s mayor, Tilo Kummer (Die Linke), was “stunned” on Facebook. He wrote: “What has to happen before some people understand the gravity of the situation? Entire day centers, schools, ambulance posts and fire brigades have already been quarantined. A few people, especially from affected nursing homes, are currently fighting for their lives in our group. “I hoped that” the action of the police officers present would soon add to this [führt]that these ‘walks’ have an ending. ”In the comments, users mostly from Hildburghausen wrote that they were embarrassed to be out of town for the first time.
One Twitter user, apparently a teacher in the Hildburghausen district, said in shock: “Can anyone imagine how angry I am? From such ‘concerned parents’ you could have the children in emergency care tomorrow. It’s so bad for me right now. I won’t be able to change anything more positively here. “
Thuringia’s Minister of Culture and Chancellor of State Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff had just returned from the prime minister’s conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel when he heard of the demonstration. His comment on Twitter: “The fact that right-wing extremists known as ‘concerned parents’ marching through Hildburghausen camouflaged in the district with the highest incidence values is unbearable.
Among others, former NPD politician Tommy Frenck had obviously enthusiastically posted a series of photos and videos. Frenck, who, as a restaurateur in Hildburghausen, had offered “Führerschnitzel” for 8.88 euros, wrote that public life had to “finally restart”.
Schools and kindergartens have been closed since Wednesday due to high incidence rates in Hildburghausen. District administrator Thomas Müller (CDU) blamed the Bavarian neighborhood for the sharp increase, where relatively high numbers of corona infections were measured a few weeks ago. Additionally, a large number of people were infected at two approved private events in the district. Infections can no longer be assigned to sources.
