Next Wednesday, the Federal Council will discuss how to proceed with the Crown regime. Despite the relatively low number of cases, it does not seem like a fast and far-reaching easing. The reason for this is fear of mutated and more contagious virus variants.
But that is not all. To understand the caution of the Federal Council, especially that of Health Minister Alain Berset, it is worth looking back at a key moment in dealing with the pandemic to date.
At the end of December, Berset gave a lengthy interview to SRF’s “Sternstunde Philosophie”. When asked about the biggest mistake in the Corona fight, Berset replied that he was too optimistic in the summer. “Allowing the big events to repeat themselves was certainly not a good idea,” he said. However, to justify the decision, he stated: “We always make decisions based on the information we had at the time. What is true one day may be wrong the next. That is the hallmark of a crisis. ”
