As for the sport, things are still not going according to plan. Dario Cologna is doing poorly at the beginning of the season. Even in the absence of the Scandinavians, their World Cup at home in Davos shouldn’t turn into a liberation. “I don’t have high expectations of being up front,” he says. “But I haven’t won yet. And that won’t happen this year either. “
In love, on the other hand, Cologna is drugged. In the summer, he and his Laura had a lavish wedding. Besides sports, private life plays an increasingly important role for Dario. “At twenty you live differently, you are totally focused on sports. That is also normal and important. At 34 you realize what else is important in life. “
Crown thwarted wedding plans
In this special year 2020 in all aspects. The Corona crisis has also thwarted Darío and Laura’s wedding plans. “We actually wanted to get married in June, but a party was not possible at that time,” reveals Cologna. Everything was closed until the beginning of June. So we postponed it to August 1. “
Because it was important to both of you that you could really celebrate. We already had a good party. It was also important to us that there was a good party. The situation allowed that to happen. And we invited many friends, young people. “
Then the Colonies broke loose. The lavish festival took place on the Brissago Islands in Ticino with around 60 guests. You can drink gin and tonic and Moscow Mule, Dario and Laura’s favorite drinks. A DJ sets the mood.
The party was more important than tradition
Good humor, happy faces and love were in the foreground, tradition was less important to him and Laura. “We were on the island, we had a free wedding there, celebrated by family and friends. There wasn’t even a wedding cake, just other desserts. It should be a good day for us, ”says Cologna.
The cross-country skier praises: “Friends and the special location did it all. A pleasant evening and the party were important to us. The night before we had dinner with the family in a grotto. So we spent a little more time together. “
The wedding dance sweetened the confinement
But they both wanted to maintain a tradition. They studied a wedding dance. Because normal lessons weren’t possible due to Corona’s situation, they both had to be inventive.
“It came up in the confinement and we started dancing with tutorials. Pretty intense at first. When we had to postpone the wedding, we put it aside a bit and then started over. Now I’m not the professional, but it was good, ”says Cologna, laughing. “I certainly don’t have two left feet.”
It was a waltz, “with some adjustments,” says Cologna. The song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri was also played. “But he left for two minutes max, then the transition to the party came.”
The desire to have children
As with Cologna, the transition to a new life comes with Laura by your side. The next step? Safe children. “We want to wait there, we have no stress. I’ve always said that cross-country skiing is in the foreground first, then there will be another moment, ”says Dario. But it is certainly one of our wishes. And my career won’t last that long either. “
Cologna is still planning until 2022. A lot would have to happen for him to extend his career beyond that. The next happy event is much more likely to follow the Beijing Games soon.
