Tirreno-Adriatico: Merlier wins the sprint
Belgian Tim Merlier won the sixth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico in 175 km from Castelfidardo to Senigallia in a sprint. Merlier won ahead of two-time tour stage winner Pascal Ackermann of Germany and Magnus Cort Nielsen of Denmark. Britain’s Simon Yates continues to wear the leader’s jersey. Before the last two stages, he is 16 seconds ahead of Pole Rafal Majka and 39 seconds ahead of his compatriot Geraint Thomas.
There are no spectators in the finish area of the 15th stage.
Stage 15 of the Tour de France from Lyon to the Grand Colombier on Sunday will end without a spectator. Due to the increasing number of corona infections in the department of Ain, fans are not allowed on the final ascent to the 1501-meter-high summit or the previous ascent to Col de la Biche.
