Giro: Filippo Ganna wins the prologue

The first leader of the 103rd edition of the Giro d’Italia is Filippo Ganna. The Italian time trial world champion of team Ineos won the 15.1 km prologue between Monreale and Palermo in Sicily in a time trial match. He distanced himself to second place Joao Almeida (POR / Deceuninck-Quick Step) in no less than 22 seconds. Ganna’s teammate Geraint Thomas was fourth and the strongest of the contenders for the overall victory. The best Swiss was Danilo Wyss (61./+1:22 minutes).

Benelux: Van der Poel wins, Küng on the podium

Mathieu van der Poel won the Benelux Tour. The Dutch driver from Alpecin attacked the notorious Geraardsbergen wall in the final 184km stage, winning alone and thus also taking the overall victory. Thurgau’s Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) lost nine seconds to Van der Poel as fifth and finished the tour in third place behind Sören Kragh (DEN / Sunweb).
