7,000 visitors per day are expected at the Expo site in Bern this weekend. That makes your head shake.
Currently, events with more than 1000 people are prohibited in the canton of Bern. Sports clubs like SCB and YB have to bite the bullet and celebrate their games in front of half-empty rows of seats.
In the same place where the SCB plays its hockey games, on the Expo site, a big event is taking place this weekend: the Suisse Caravan Salon. Up to 7000 visitors interested in camping are expected every day. Many people shake their heads in disbelief. Why is such a meeting organized and even allowed?
“This is not a fun event”
“That’s something different,” Jennifer Somm, the person in charge of Suisse-Caravan, told SRF. This fair is not a fun event, but a sales and advisory event. “This event is more like a mall.” The protection concept was designed accordingly, the available space and all social events canceled. And the director of the fair emphasizes: “We did not make the decision to go ahead alone. Exhibitors, associations and visitors participated in advance. We always wonder if this could be justified. “
And yes, you can vouch for it. Ultimately, the events of the two Berne sports clubs also proved that it was possible to run the event without corona infections, says Jennifer Somm.
A little nervous remains
Despite all the optimism: You can feel some nervousness in Jennifer Somm: “I have certainly not slept well in recent weeks.” After all, they weren’t expecting such a quick number. In recent days, those responsible had to tighten protection measures and make adjustments. “We do what we can, but in the end it is also the responsibility of the visitors.”
