The situation of the crown in Ticino has calmed down, there are only very few cases. The reasons for this are diverse.
Due to its border location with Italy, the canton of Ticino was hit the hardest by the Corona crisis in Switzerland in the spring. At that time, one in three cases was in southern Switzerland. Today is quite different. “Currently there are few cases in Lombardy. In addition, ten percent of the population of Ticino already had the disease. “The Canton of Ticino doctor, Giorgio Merlani, explains why there have been very few new infections in Ticino for many weeks.
“The most important point, however, is the great sensitivity of the population. People adhere to hygiene measures, ”continues Merlani. The fact that people in Ticino act very responsibly when it comes to coronavirus can be seen from the fact that the majority of people in stores wear masks, voluntarily and without the guidelines of the State Council.
Relaxation in nursing homes
However, there are such requirements. Gatherings of more than 30 people have been banned since early July. There is a limit of one hundred people in the clubs. Until recently, very strict precautionary measures were taken in nursing homes. Visits to rooms were prohibited. In some nursing homes, a 45-minute visit was only possible once a week.
“There were households that were very strict because their leaders feared being held responsible for new infections,” says Ticino health director Raffaele De Rosa. These months of harsh conditions in Ticino nursing homes were very stressful for many residents. Some of them frankly lost their hunger for life.
Hope for a reduced number of cases
Now the Ticino government has relieved him. Family members can visit the rooms or take their loved ones outside. “Thank God,” says Alberto Pons. His 96-year-old mother has suffered greatly in recent months. «I had a lot of contact with other elderly relatives. Many were unhappy with the rigid regulations in nursing homes. We will see how the new rules are implemented now. “
The people of Ticino now hope that the number of cases will remain low and that there will be no new cases in nursing homes. Because the Ticino authorities recently made it clear that these current rules can change again very quickly and houses can close again.
