Once again, Switzerland is on a record course. The tightening in force across Switzerland since Monday (mask requirement, upper limits for spontaneous meetings, seating requirements in restaurants) are not enough to flatten the curve again. The Minister of Health, Alain Berset (48), has already announced that the Federal Council could order new measures.
VIEW is the draft consultation that Berset gave to the cantons for consultation on Friday. These are the most important points:
- The mask requirement is greatly expanded. It also applies outdoors if it is a settlement area. Outdoor mask requirement, at least in residential areas. “Everyone should wear a mask in public spaces in settlement areas,” the draft says.
- In addition, it applies to all indoor and outdoor areas of publicly accessible facilities and businesses, including markets or waiting areas at train stations or at bus stops. Children under 12 years old or people for medical reasons are excluded. Or restaurant guests when they are at the table. There are also other exceptions for certain groups, such as performing artists.
- A mask is also required at indoor work, unless you are alone in the office. Or you can’t wear a mask for safety reasons. However, employers must ensure that employees can work from home if possible.
- There is a maximum limit of 50 people for public events. The political assemblies of the legislative power at the federal, cantonal and communal levels are excluded from the limitation of the number of people.
- A maximum of 15 people are allowed to participate in private events with family and friends, such as birthdays or weddings.
- For restaurants and clubs there is a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am Guests must be seated, they are only allowed to consume food and beverages while seated. There can be a maximum of four people at the table; the latter does not apply to parents with children.
- Discos and dance halls must close, dance events are prohibited.
- Universities and other higher schools must return to distance education. Only compulsory education and upper secondary level remain in classroom teaching. Teaching activities that require on-site presence are also excluded. In the future, the use of masks will also be mandatory for teachers and 7th grade children. Except in situations where a mask makes teaching difficult.
- Sports activities outside of professional sports are restricted. Only non-contact sports are allowed with a maximum of 15 people. A mask must be worn indoors and distance must be kept. A mask should be worn outdoors if distance cannot be maintained. The operation of the professional league is still permissible.
- In the cultural sector, rehearsals and concerts are prohibited in the non-professional sector. Choir concerts are prohibited in the professional sector.
The amending decree is now in consultation with the cantons. The exact moment it would take effect is still open.
