The crown numbers in Switzerland are increasing significantly. Almost all cantons now clearly exceed the German limit. This could have consequences: shopping tourists may soon only be able to drive to Edeka with a negative Corona certificate.
Germany is expected to update the list of risks on Wednesday. 50 cases of corona per 100,000 inhabitants are considered the limit. With the exception of Solothurn and Schaffhausen, all regions of Switzerland are above. That means: Berlin could declare almost all of Switzerland a risk zone. So far, only Geneva and Vaud have declared themselves this way.
The decision is made at the highest level in Berlin. However, individual states and federal districts are responsible for implementation. There are big differences, as the example of Bavaria and the Czech Republic shows.
Difficult shopping
The Czech Republic is officially a risk zone. It warns “Avoid unnecessary tourist trips.” Cross-border travelers who want to enter Germany in the Cham district, east of Regensburg, must submit a negative corona test. Otherwise nothing works.
The obligation is in force from Monday. Trials are free for travelers. The measure is intended to prevent borders from being closed again. This should especially help the local economy, which is highly dependent on Czech employees.
Other regions are likely to follow suit. Therefore, there is a possibility that Swiss citizens may soon only be able to cross the border with a negative test result. That means: Buying at Konstanzer Lago is only possible with a corresponding test result. The same applies to the shopping experience in Lörrach, a particular challenge for public transport in Basel.
The following criteria apply: When is a country a risk area?(02:06)
Mandatory test at Europapark
The Europapark example shows that Germans are serious: Anyone traveling to the amusement park in Rust from certain cantons of Germany may experience an unpleasant surprise. The Swiss in the official risk zones of Geneva and Vaud can no longer have fun unless they have a negative test result.
Cooperation with Switzerland is very close and the number of cross-border travelers is high on both sides. The cantons of Basel-Stadt, Schaffhausen and Zurich, in particular, depend on workers from southern Germany. (ise)
