This morning, Interior Minister Alain Berset will meet with cantonal health directors in Bern. The subject of discussion is, among other things, the tightening of the crown measures, especially since hospitals and their personnel are on the limit.
As in Germany, the focus is on closing all stores that do not offer products for everyday use. Additionally, the closure of all restaurants and the introduction of a traffic light system that has long been used in other nations is being considered. In principle, this fulfills the request for a second lock.
Lukas Engelberger, president of the cantonal health directors, believes that new measures in the fight against the pandemic are inevitable. Last week was the worst for federalism that he has ever experienced, as he says in an interview.
In response to the dramatic appeal to the public from various university clinics and health workers over the weekend, the Basel health director responded: “We have to take this very seriously. The situation is very difficult and I think it is correct that these indicators come directly from the health sector. At the moment we still have the capacities in the hospitals, but only because we have strengthened the structures and renounced many interventions. And these are not just ‘nice’ interventions. ”
