Crown data debate: scientists criticize federal government’s handling of R-value

In Switzerland, the R-value has a direct influence on the corona measurements. Experts now say it is too imprecise for that.

In mid-December, the Federal Council ordered a partial blockade, also based on the R value. But this had to be significantly corrected downwards later. The result an investigation of this newspaper sparked some backlash on Tuesday. The SVP demanded the immediate lifting of the partial closure. Representatives of the sectors affected by the closures also demanded a correction to the Federal Council decision of December 18. In addition, other cantons announced the opening of their ski areas on Tuesday, also in reference to the lower R-value.
