Earlier in the week, Switzerland removed Belgium from the Swiss quarantine list.
Belgium reacts in reverse: it has added the canton of Friborg to the red list. According to the Belgian Foreign Ministry, this means with immediate effect: “Currently it is not possible or not allowed to travel.” There is still a short grace period for returnees and tourists until Friday at 4 p.m.: Only those entering after this point should be quarantined and have a corona test.
The canton of Bern is new to the orange risk list. The orange warning level applies to nine cantons:
- Basel city
- Bern
- Geneva
- Neuenburg
- Schwyz
- Solothurn
- Waadt
- Zug
- Zürich
For this, “increased vigilance” is applied: a quarantine or crown test is recommended on return, but they are not mandatory.
Four cantons that were on the orange list as of Wednesday night have been removed: Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, Glarus, Uri and Wallis. The kingdom gives the green light to a total of 16 cantons.
Up and down since July
For weeks, the Belgians have been pushing local cantons back and forth on their own risk list. Up to 16 cantons were on the warning list.
The ups and downs on the Belgian crown’s list began in July: At that time, the Brussels authorities put the French-speaking cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais on the red list and banned non-mandatory stays in the Lake Geneva region. FDP Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (59) then intervened in Brussels, after which Vaud and Valais were removed from the list. Geneva and Vaud are currently on the orange list.
The corona virus is currently occupying the whole world and every day there are new developments. All current information on the subject is available on the coronavirus ticker.
