In recent years he has been the undisputed star of the cross-country skiing scene. Norwegian Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo (24) won gold three times at the last Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018 (sprint, team sprint, relay) and became world champion in the same disciplines at Seefeld the following year. In the 2018/19 season, he also triumphed in the Tour de Ski. The 24-year-old has replaced Norwegian “old stars” Petter Northug (34) and Martin Johnsrud Sundby (36) at the top of cross-country skiing.
Fear of the long-term consequences of the crown
Klaebo is now making tough decisions to remain among the best in the world in the future. Because he is afraid of becoming infected with the corona virus and then possibly suffering permanent lung damage, he sends his girlfriend Pernille Dösvik to quarantine.
When you meet someone, you have to be quarantined with your family for a few “safe days.” There they will see if any symptoms develop. He told the Norwegian newspaper “Verdens Gang”: “My girlfriend no longer goes to university and takes all her courses digitally so as not to put me in danger. It hurts to put Pernille in this position. But I think that’s how I have to do it. “
The season starts at the end of November.
Klaebo, who was born in Trondheim, currently avoids physical contact with his friends. He even does it without his physical therapist. The same applies to the rest of the family with grandfather and coach Kaare Hoesflot, mother Elisabeth, father Haakon and brother Ola. The only exception is for Sister Ane, who goes to school.
The cross country star is only out and about at home or on the road. And so he remembers a grueling season, which should start at the end of November in Ruka, Finland. “It will be an eternal quarantine.” (sst)
