The center of Petrinja is practically in ruins, it is said. Serious damage was also reported in the capital Zagreb.
Petrinja Mayor Darinko Dumbović says that according to Croatian television station N1, half of his city has been destroyed. Dumbović asks for help. There is an urgent need for professional firefighters and the military. “We get people out of the cars and we don’t know if they are dead or injured,” says Dumbović desperately.
It is the second consecutive earthquake in 30 hours. On Monday, tremors of 5.2 and 5.0 were recorded in the same area.
