Criticism of Ronaldo’s state of mind in the victory of «Lewa» – but his vote surprised

Robert Lewandowski has been named World Footballer of the Year. The 32-year-old Pole beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese in particular seemed to disagree with the choice, which earned him criticism. Right or wrong?

So it was not surprising that on Thursday night he received the award as a world footballer at the virtual ceremony in Zurich. His two rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, were held powerless by live video as FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally presented him with the coveted trophy.

Messi and Ronaldo have comfortably shared the best player of the year award with each other for the past few years. Luka Modric only stepped in in 2018. While Messi was apparently happy about Lewandowski’s first win, CR7 seemed anything but happy.

Generous Ronaldo – Lewandowski does not strengthen his rivals

In social networks, the appearance of Ronaldo at the gala was analyzed and highly criticized. But the thing about almost all opinions: The 35-year-old also helped Lewandowski win.

This came from the voting lists that the world association published after the freestyle. In addition to journalists and fans, the captains and coaches of the national teams of all FIFA member associations had equal voting rights.

Ronaldo, who finished second with 39 points behind Lewandowski (52), awarded the Pole all the points (5) as captain of Portugal. He also chose Messi – the Argentine got 35 points – in second place (3 points). He also gave Kylian Mbappé a point. Juve’s top scorer was extremely generous to his two biggest competitors. A strong sign, especially since you often failed to support the main competition in such situations in the past.

Messi preferred PSG stars Neymar and Mbappé. At the end of the day, he was still picking Lewandowski in third place, while the Bayern forward put three names on the list, Thiago, Neymar and Kevin de Bruyne, who did not make the top 3.
