Currently 60 patients are in their hospitals due to complications related to the Covid 19 disease, four are in intensive care. Additionally, seven corona cases occurred at Saint-Maurice hospital on Saturday night, for which the administration had to issue a quarantine and ban visits until further notice.
Because an average of 25 percent of the hospitalized person would have to be cared for in intensive care units, they feared a “dramatic” overload. Therefore, the French-speaking Valais Hospital Center (CHVR) went to the second of the four alert levels of its emergency plan.
The consequence of this is that the CHVR has to increase its bed capacity for Covid-19 cases. This would reduce resources for planned interventions and close four of the 13 operating rooms. In Upper Valais, the alert level remains unchanged for the moment, “despite a significant increase” in admissions at the two Upper Valais Hospital Center (SZO) hospitals.
