The strategy for Covid 19 vaccination in Switzerland is well known: first people at risk, then caregivers.

The development of various vaccines against Covid-19 is well advanced. In Switzerland, the final preparations are being made so that the first vaccinations can start in January. The prerequisite is that Swissmedic can approve a first vaccine after all clinical data has been verified.

The BAG and EKIF have already published the vaccination strategy. It includes general vaccination objectives, as well as the definition of target groups and specific vaccination objectives.

The first goal of a Covid-19 vaccine is to protect people who are particularly at risk, and therefore reduce the course of serious illness and death. The second objective is to reduce the burden on hospitals and nursing homes and ensure the functioning of the health system. The third goal is ultimately to reduce the negative effects of the pandemic and contain the spread of the virus.

The Covid-19 vaccine is intended in particular for the following adult target groups (in descending order with limited availability of vaccines):

  1. Particularly at risk (pregnant women excluded)
  2. Health personnel in contact with the patient and care personnel for particularly vulnerable people.
  3. Close contacts (household members) of particularly vulnerable people
  4. People in communal facilities at increased risk of infection and outbreak (for example, homes for the disabled) and their staff
  5. Any other adult who would like to get vaccinated.

Children and adolescents do not yet belong to the target groups for the vaccination strategy, as the relevant study data for this age group are not yet available.

The Covid-19 vaccination will be free for the population. The costs of vaccines, vaccination and necessary equipment are borne by the federal government, the cantons and the compulsory medical insurance (OKP). The vaccine has no deductible or deductible.

The federal government does not plan to get vaccinated. Everyone should be able to decide for themselves if they want to get vaccinated.
