The canton of Bern announced on Monday about its vaccination schedule. It is the largest vaccination campaign in the history of the canton.

It’s about this: Bern was the first canton to present its vaccination plan on Monday afternoon. The Health Directorate is currently preparing to carry out large corona vaccines starting in mid-January. The canton aims to have half its population vaccinated by mid-2021. The prerequisite is that a vaccine will soon be available in Switzerland.

Where to vaccinate first: Vaccination is decentralized in the vaccination centers managed by the regional hospitals. In Bern there is also a location in the Migros Park in Wankdorf. Mobile teams are deployed in the regions for people who cannot reach the vaccination centers on their own. As soon as everything has started, the canton wants to vaccinate in homes for the elderly and elderly.

Who can also vaccinate: The Health Department expects the largest amounts of vaccines in the second quarter of 2021. Then doctors’ surgeries will be added and, if BAG requirements allow, also pharmacies as vaccination sites. Finally, the canton of Bern would also appreciate approval of the Spitex vaccination.

How and who gets vaccinated: Anyone who wants to get vaccinated can register online and make an appointment. At the vaccination site, information and personal data are verified, after which the vaccination is carried out and documented. Alternatively, registration by phone through a call center or registration by letter will be possible.

The canton of Bern plans to vaccinate half the population by mid-2021. Regarding prioritization, the canton of Bern awaits further information from the BAG. So far it’s clear that people at high risk should get vaccinated first.

More information: It is not yet clear how many vaccines are available, says Frank Neff, a member of the special staff. That’s BAG’s business. During the initial phase, there will be several hundred vaccinations per region. But that will increase enormously.

The Governing Council of the Canton of Bern is pleased to present this vaccination plan. “We finally have a ray of hope,” says health director Pierre-Alain Schnegg. “Health is the greatest gift and we must all take care of it.”
