More stable case numbers here, but our neighbors’ curves point up
At Tuesday’s press conference, the BAG said it was “cautiously optimistic” about the development of the number of cases. Meanwhile, Corona is spreading faster than ever in our neighboring countries.
Even if the number of cases no longer increases as fast as a few days ago, the situation in many Swiss hospitals remains critical. But the latest developments make Stefan Kuster, head of the Communicable Diseases department at the Federal Office of Public Health, optimistic.

While it seems that the measures in this country are bearing fruit, trends in neighboring countries point to the upside without exception. Although neither France, Germany, Italy nor Austria are so far at the “Swiss level”, if it continues like this (and if Switzerland can maintain current figures), we will soon be outmatched.
Cases in a week per 100,000 inhabitants since the start of the pandemic
In proportion to the population, the majority of people in France are currently in intensive care due to Covid-19. In Austria there are almost as many as in Switzerland. In Germany and Italy there are significantly less. Touch a country on the map to learn more about the situation in intensive care units.
A closer look at the last few weeks shows that France with 591 positive tests in the last 7 days for every 100,000 inhabitants, it is just below the Swiss value (614).
The numbers in Austria Y Italy They have been almost identical in recent days, although the figures in Austria are increasing a bit faster (currently with 503 new infections in the last 7 days per 100,000 inhabitants) than in Italy (385).
Infections take longer to multiply by Germany. Although more people test positive for Sars-CoV-2 every day, the comparison value is only 154. For comparison: In summer, Switzerland placed travelers from at-risk countries with 60 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 (Not 7!) Days on the quarantine list.
