The Danes are also very concerned about the corona virus. Especially since a new virus mutation is currently rampant. This comes from the mink. A total of 214 people were infected with this form. 200 of the cases were detected in the North Jutland region. There are a particularly large number of mink farms in this region. Sars-CoV-2 has already been found in 216 breeding facilities across the country.
The Danish government on Wednesday ordered all minks in the country to be euthanized, between 15 and 17 million animals. The so-called group 5 virus can be transmitted from animals to humans, according to the SSI. It is probably not more dangerous, but there is a risk that the vaccines currently being developed will perform worse against this variant.
Increased risk of virus mutation
Continued mink farming poses a significant public health risk during an ongoing corona pandemic, the health institute warned. Large numbers of mink farms cause more infections in humans, and large numbers of infected minks increase the risk of virus mutations, against which currently developed vaccines may not protect.
In seven regions of North Jutland, people are now asked to remain in their communities. Local public transport will be discontinued from Monday. Restaurants, swimming pools and gyms must close. The municipalities of Hjørring, Frederikshavn, Brønderslev, Jammerbugt, Thisted, Vesthimmerland and Læsø are affected by the restrictions.
Tractor demonstration in Denmark
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said there could be talk of a real blockade in North Jutland.
Many breeders are now concerned about its existence. A tractor demonstration was held on Friday. Farmers are demanding answers from the government on how to continue their careers. (man / SDA)
