- The president of the United States himself, Donald Trump, has now emphasized that the next few days are likely to be decisive for the course of his coronavirus infection.
- Given that Trump is not campaigning at the moment after his corona infection, his sons and Vice President Mike Pence should replace him.
- Even the US President’s personal physician has yet to give the go-ahead for Trump’s health, despite “considerable” progress since the crown’s diagnosis.
“I’m starting to feel good again,” Trump said in a new video message from the hospital Saturday. In the coming days, however, “the real test” will come: “we’ll see what happens,” he continued.
The White House had emphasized on Friday that Trump had only mild symptoms and was only brought to the clinic as a precaution.
“When I came here, I didn’t feel so good. Now I feel so much better, “Trump said in the video posted Saturday night. His voice sounded a little thick and he seemed like he was out of breath.
“I think I’ll be back soon”
“I have to go back because we still have to make America great again,” he said, referring to his campaign slogan. “I think I’ll be back soon.”
At the same time, Trump defended his approach in recent months, in which he made many public appearances and campaign trips, often refraining from taking precautionary measures, such as wearing a mask. “I had no other choice, I couldn’t stay in the White House,” he said. “As a leader, you have to address the issues.”
Looking ahead to the November 3 US presidential election, Trump said he wanted “to end the election campaign as it started.”
New electoral campaign agenda: “Operation MAGA”
Given that Trump is not campaigning at the moment after his corona infection, his sons and Vice President Mike Pence should replace him. Trump’s election campaign team called for “Operation MAGA” over the weekend, based on the slogan “Make America Great Again” with which Trump entered the White House four years ago.
Pence is now set to make a first Trump campaign appearance on October 8 in Peoria, Arizona. His television debate with Democratic Vice Candidate Kamala Harris in Salt Lake City is scheduled for the day before. In addition to Pence, Trump’s sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are also said to travel to election campaign events.
Not everything is clear from the personal physician
Trump’s personal physician, for his part, has not given the go-ahead for the US president’s health, despite “considerable” progress since the corona diagnosis. “Although he has not yet cleared the mountain, the team remains cautiously optimistic,” said Dr. Sean Conley in an update posted that night.
Trump still has no fever and does not need extra oxygen. He worked on Saturday and moved around his hospital room without difficulty. The oxygen saturation of Trump’s blood was 96 to 98 percent, Conley said. This is an important value: if Covid-19 attacks the lungs, the body receives less oxygen.
Trump received a second dose of the drug remdesivir without complications. It inhibits an enzyme in viruses that is necessary for them to multiply. The doctor had previously announced a five-day treatment for Trump with remdesivir. His condition will be monitored Sunday, Conley said.
