Crown numbers are still high. Every day more infected people are added. Too many for Baselland and Basel-Stadt. You cannot keep up with contact tracking. Tracking the chains of infection is overwhelming for the authorities. The results of corona tests are communicated too late, doctors are not informed and the quarantine of patients is not verified. The Basel area has now sought help. An external call center was hired.
No wonder: the teams are small. Few contact trackers have to do much. In the Basel area, 21 tracers share a workload of 1490 percent, as reported by “bz”. Teams don’t have to be so small. There are enough applicants: the canton receives up to ten spontaneous applications per week. Of these, however, only four people were hired, as Rolf Wirz, a media spokesman for the Department of the Economy and Health, told the newspaper.
Training as a contact tracker takes time
It seems similar with Basel-Stadt. However, more have already been hired there. Anne Tschudin, media spokesperson for the Basel Department of Health, in “bz”: “So far we have received around 70 unsolicited requests from the population, and we have recruited around 30 people.” One would like to recruit more people, but getting familiar with that would also take time, says Tschudin. The cantons gasp after the numbers on the crown.
The only ray of hope for the authorities: the measures taken by the Federal Council. They are supposed to reduce infections. And then the cantons could continue contact tracing again. (hmh)
