At least the Health Minister, Alain Berset, is not preparing an immediate shutdown. In a press conference with Lukas Engelberger, president of the cantonal conference of health directors, Berset did not want to reveal what his plans are. An emergency plan aims to ensure that the Federal Council can quickly decide on new restrictions to combat the Covid pandemic during the holiday season. Because the Federal Council says goodbye to the Christmas holidays next Friday and the next ordinary meeting will not take place until January 13, Berset proposes three packages of measures with alarm values. This is to allow the government to react quickly during the Christmas season. If the cantons approve the plans for Tuesday, the Federal Council could start the next stage without asking for comments from all parties again during the holiday season.
