One trip to Berlin is enough. Or a flight to Sardinia. Both regions are on the Swiss crown risk list. Anyone traveling back from this area must be in quarantine. A negative corona test is of no use. The only cure accepted by the authorities is ten days in the room of the home.
That should change. And very soon. Health Minister Alain Berset (48) announced earlier this week that a new regime would be applied. Nothing is officially known about the content of the new rules. The truth, however, is that the cantons will have until the end of the week to express their wishes.
The canton of Bern goes particularly far, as the “Tages-Anzeiger” writes. The suggestion: give up a general obligation of self-isolation. “The travel quarantine,” said a spokeswoman for the cantonal health administration, “can be lifted from the point of view of the canton of Bern.” In many countries for which Switzerland intends to quarantine the return trip, the risk of infection is no longer higher than in Switzerland, is the reason given.
The federal government wants to shorten
Instead, the Bern model states that returnees on vacation can be screened. “Maybe also on a regular basis, so that people with a negative test and the requirement for a prescribed mask can go back to their regular work.”
The spokeswoman refers to figures from the canton of Geneva. These would show that only a few people get infected when they travel abroad. “If there is any measure, we would like to see simple and understandable rules for entry from risk countries.”
Can the canton enforce your proposal? It is not yet clear. According to information from the “Tages-Anzeiger”, the federal government should aim to shorten the quarantine obligation. Seven days instead of ten. Evidence will also be used. Anyone who does a PCR test on the sixth day of quarantine and receives a negative result should be able to leave the apartment from the seventh day. Those affected have to pay the costs themselves.
