In April, May, June and July, Switzerland receives at least 8 million doses of vaccines from Pfizer / Biontech and Moderna. According to the Federal Council, the goal of vaccinating everyone who wants to be vaccinated at least once by the end of June is realistic.
At least 8.1 million doses of the two already approved vaccines are expected to arrive in Switzerland by the end of July. Vaccine manufacturers had promised timely delivery of purchased quantities, announced the Federal Council and the Conference of Cantonal Directors of Health (GDK). The federal government and the cantons met Thursday with representatives of vaccine providers Pfizer / Biontech and Moderna.
In total, Switzerland has ordered 6 million doses of vaccines from Pfizer / Biontech and 13.5 million doses of vaccines from Moderna. With this guarantee, the goal of being able to offer at least one vaccine to everyone who wants to get vaccinated by the end of June remains realistic, according to the announcement.
You could be vaccinated much faster if more vaccines were added. The application of Astra Zeneca is currently under review by the therapeutic products authority Swissmedic. The federal government has ordered 5.3 million doses of vaccines from the British pharmaceutical company. Two other vaccine producers from whom Switzerland ordered vaccines are Curevac (5 million doses of vaccine) and Novavax (6 million doses of vaccine). No company has yet submitted a license application in Switzerland.
First dose of vaccination no later than July
The federal government appears to be waiting for approval of the Astra Zeneca vaccine to be imminent. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) has created scenarios for the vaccination campaign until the end of July, depending on the will to vaccinate and on the variant with and without the British vaccine.
The federal government assumes that about half of the population of Switzerland currently wants to be vaccinated. About a quarter are still unsure and a quarter do not want to be vaccinated.
Even with a 75 percent willingness to vaccinate and no additional vaccine, according to the BAG, guaranteed deliveries should be enough to deliver one dose to all adults who want to be vaccinated by the second half of July at the latest.

Healthy adults can expect a vaccination in the first half of June at the earliest. This under the condition that the willingness to vaccinate is not greater than 50 percent and the Astra Zeneca vaccine is also available.

The FOPH expects the first vaccination for particularly vulnerable people to be completed in the second half of April. However, for Moderna and Pfizer / Biontech vaccines, a second vaccination dose is necessary for complete vaccination protection.
Inoculate large quantities quickly
However, the vaccination schedule can only be met if the logistics are correct. The federal government will immediately distribute the vaccination doses to the cantons, and the cantons are ready to inoculate the large quantities as soon as possible, the message continues.
Companies could also contribute to rapid inoculation. The willingness of several companies to carry out vaccination campaigns themselves, and thus help overcome the crisis, is well received by the federal government.
