Western Switzerland is the crown troubled child of Switzerland. After the cantons of Friborg and Vaud, Geneva is now on Belgium’s travel ban list. According to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this means with immediate effect: “Currently it is not possible or not allowed to travel.” There is still a short grace period for Geneva returnees and tourists until Friday at 4 p.m.: Only those entering from this point should be quarantined and have a corona test.
As of Friday, Belgium will make a small change in what the level of red warning means: the Belgian government has decided to “replace the ban on traveling in a red zone with a travel advisory, although it is strongly recommended not to travel to said zone “. But that does not change the procedure: “The measures that are applied in the event of a return from the red or orange zones remain in force.”
14 cantons on the orange list
The orange risk list has also risen again and recently also includes eastern Switzerland: the two Appenzell, St. Gallen and Thurgau have landed on the updated list. The orange warning level applies to 14 cantons:
- Aargau
- Appenzell Ausserrhoden
- Appenzell Innerrhoden
- Basel city
- Bern
- Swear
- Neuenburg
- Schwyz
- Solothurn
- St. Gallen
- Thurgau
- Wallis
- Zug
- Zürich
For this, “increased vigilance” is applied: a quarantine or crown test is recommended on return, but not mandatory. The kingdom gives the green light to the nine remaining cantons.
Up and down since July
For weeks, the Belgians have been pushing local cantons back and forth on their own risk list. The previous record was 16 cantons on the warning list; this record has now been broken with 17 cantons.
