The ski areas are open, the pubs are closed, and that will continue to be the case in Graubünden for a while. The governing council decided that. The gastronomy of the track relaxes for the first time: the alcohol ban that was previously in force will be lifted on January 3, so nothing will stand in the way of the Schümli-Pflümli at the edge of the track.
Already on New Year’s Eve, there will be more relaxation in the ski bars – the general rule of takeaway food will be maintained. But at least on the terraces, pubs can once again offer seating. A maximum of 4 people can be seated per table and a distance of 1.5 meters is required between groups of guests.
Guests cannot stay indoors yet. In early January, the governing council wants to decide again whether the restaurants can be reopened.
R-value falls, science warns
The epidemiological situation in the canton would allow that: If we look at the new infections in the last 14 days, Graubünden, with 561 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, is below the Swiss average of 586. The R value (which, however, is highly controversial), it has been below 1 since December 9, and currently even below 0.8 according to federal data.
Therefore, Graubünden would meet the criteria for pickling opening. Hospital capacity is also looking good: Graubünden’s intensive care units are only 67 percent full (as of Dec. 28). However, scientists warn that current corona numbers could tend to be too low due to less testing during the holidays, and therefore urgently advise against any relief.
Start of vaccination on January 4
Starting from January 4, the vaccination will also take place in Graubünden. The 2,600 doses that Graubünden has been assigned by the federal government are administered by mobile teams. Due to the limited availability of the vaccine, especially to vulnerable people older than 75 years, or elderly residents and nursing homes, health personnel with patient contact and caregivers of particularly vulnerable people at the beginning of the vaccination campaign have priority , according to the governing council.
Regional vaccination / testing centers are being created and will be operational from the second half of January. By the end of January 2021, the canton will have a total of around 9,000 doses of vaccine, that is, 4,500 people can be vaccinated at the end of January. Two doses are required per person.
Registration for vaccination is expected to be possible from mid-January and will be done electronically via a platform throughout Switzerland, either through the independent online registration or via the family doctor.
