For the first time since mid-April, the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) reported more than 400 new corona cases in one day on Friday. Stefan Kuster from BAG was not worried about the increase despite the increase.
The number of views is just below 1, Kuster told media in Bern. This means that there is no exponential growth. The situation is also stable in terms of hospitalizations and deaths. (To the board)
“We are not talking about a second wave at the moment, we are talking about a slow increase in the number of infections,” Kuster said. The efforts of the population and the cantons are bearing fruit.
According to Kuster, it is not possible to foresee how the situation will develop. That depends on the return of travelers, the impact of passing big events, and fall can also have an impact.
Everyone is challenged
To avoid a sharp increase in the number of cases, everyone is required: the federal government, the cantons and each individual, Kuster said. BAG is working to ensure that future test results reach those affected 24 hours after symptoms have been recognized. Among other things, rapid tests for this are expected.
Virginie Masserey, head of the infection control section at FOPH, said the new rapid tests, including those from Roche, will need to be carefully reviewed to see where they could be used. It is unclear how long it took the labs and Swissmedic for this. It would probably be a matter of weeks.
France put to the test
BAG officials had no news on whether or not France would be included on the quarantine list. The situation is being further examined, the discussion is still ongoing, Masserey said.
A shortening of the quarantine period to 5 days, as is currently being discussed in Germany, is not a problem in Switzerland at the moment, according to their information. A duration of 10 days is important to be able to break the chain of infection.
