New entry regime: these rules apply from today
By order of the Federal Council, the new regulations for entry into Switzerland will apply from Monday, February 8. All air travelers must present a negative PCR test.
Starting Monday, new regulations will apply for entry to Switzerland.
The Federal Council adjusted its testing strategy two weeks ago and, in this context, it also modified the provisions for entry into Switzerland. As of Monday, February 8, the following rules will apply:
Negative PCR test
Aircraft passengers must always present a negative PCR test. The test should not take more than 72 hours when boarding the plane and at the border, as announced by the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) at the request of CH Media.
PCR tests are only accepted upon entry, that is, rapid antigen tests are not accepted. Children under 12 years of age and travelers arriving in Switzerland from the border area by train, bus or boat are exempt from the test.
Electronic registration form
If you are not entering Switzerland from a border area, you must complete an electronic entry form in addition to the negative test result. This applies both to entry by plane and by train, bus or boat.
When asked by CH Media, SBB reports that it will inform train passengers of the measures through loudspeaker announcements or verbally before they enter Switzerland. There is also a corresponding travel tip in the online schedule. Additionally, travelers can get the customer escort form if they cannot complete it online, SBB continues.
Cross-border travelers, however, do not have to fill out the form. However, they are required to show their cross-border traveler’s permit if requested, as will be reported by the Federal Customs Administration if requested.
Travelers who intend to travel directly to another country also do not have to fill out a form.
Entry from risk zone
The situation is different for travelers who want to enter Switzerland from a country or area with a higher risk of infection. These are listed on the BAG list of risk countries.
In this case, travelers must always submit a negative test and electronic registration form and be in quarantine for ten days. Neither a negative test result nor a Covid-19 vaccine cancels the quarantine requirement.
A negative result of the test at the entrance does not give any certainty that there is no infection, writes the BAG at the request of CH Media. Therefore, on the same day of the test, no infection could be evidenced. Therefore, quarantine is necessary as a second protective measure, continues the BAG.
However, there is now the option to shorten the travel quarantine from the seventh day, provided a second negative corona test is available. But only if the cantonal authorities agree. In addition, the costs of the test must be borne by you.
