The mini blockade in Germany paralyzes the country. At least the Flixbus no longer work. The long-distance travel provider will temporarily cease operations in Switzerland, Germany and Austria from November 3. The reason is the new corona contact restrictions. The company announced on Friday.
The co-founder and managing director of Flixmobility, André Schwämmlein (39), referred in the “Welt am Sonntag” to the travel restrictions requested by politicians. “That is why we now completely shut down our bus and train operations in November in hopes of being able to use Flixbus for our customers at Christmas.”
SBB maintains current schedule
Flixbus is not the only transport company that responds to the high number of cases. The Austrian Federal Railways are also cutting hours. “Due to the increasing number of Covid-19 infections in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, we are reducing nighttime jet traffic between Austria and Germany and between Switzerland and Germany,” the company writes. The new regulation applies from November 8 until probably December 2.
In Switzerland, SBB has so far rejected such restrictions. “As things stand today, and in consultation with the Federal Office of Transport (BAV), there will be no cuts in regional and long distance services,” the company confirmed to VIEW.
Flixbus on tires all year round
In the spring, Flixbus temporarily stopped offering trips due to corona requirements. “In the summer we were able to serve about half of our network again. We follow the demand very closely, ”says Schwämmlein.
But already in October “a reduced desire to travel” was seen again. “At the moment we are around 30 percent, but we will reduce it completely again because the political desire is not to travel,” said the head of Flixbus. (vnf / SDA)
