The crisis in the crown has returned in full force. And skeptics of the pandemic are becoming more aggressive: in more and more countries, protests against the measures are turning into violence. Italy, France, Spain: protesters attacked the police during a night march. In Germany, crown deniers even develop terrorist potential: they threw Molotov cocktails and detonated an explosive device.
And in Switzerland? In this country too, part of the panorama is becoming radicalized at breakneck speed. The tone and actions become more militant. The fans target everyone who warns about the consequences of the pandemic: virologists, journalists, politicians.
Health Minister Alain Berset is particularly targeted by radicals. When the Social Democrat recently announced tougher federal measures, some ideologues of the conspiracy were spooked in the talks.
Hatred and threats
Guys, I can’t take it anymore. I have never had so much hatred in my heart, “wrote a user on the Telegram channel of the so-called Corona rebels. “When I see the photo of Mr. Berset, pure hatred.” Another responds: “If something happens to my children, I will bring politicians to their house!” We know your addresses! »
On Saturday, October 24, at 5:09 pm, a user with the pseudonym MCDXCI posted a photo montage in which a gun is pointed at Berset’s temple. An unmistakable death threat against the Federal Council of the SP.
Federal President Simonetta Sommaruga also becomes an object of hatred. Some of the crown deniers wish him nothing less than death. In the Facebook group “Friends of the Constitution”, a man in his 40s wrote: “The ghörti scho longs for Birkenau. Enjoy a nice ‘shower’. ”Birkenau was a Nazi death camp, with gas chambers disguised as showers.
Development “worrying”
The people of Bern are alarmed. Florian Näf, spokesman for the Federal Police Office (Fedpol), says: “The growing propensity for violence on the part of the crown deniers scene occupies us a lot.” The development is “worrying”. Unusually clear words for the national security authority.
According to Näf, there is currently a significant increase in expressions of discontent, including threats. These were mainly directed against exposed bodies such as the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), as well as against politicians who are in the forefront in the fight against pandemics.
The Fedpol spokesman also confirmed: “In recent months, the protection measures for individuals had to be reassessed and strengthened.” The federal government does not reveal any details. But it is likely to be Federal Councilor Berset in particular.
Personal conversations with Droher
SonntagsBlick knows it too: the federal government, in cooperation with the cantonal police, conducted so-called dangerous speeches with potential violent offenders. The police personally visit a threat, assess the risk and make it clear that they are being watched. A medium that has proven its effectiveness among Islamists.
An incident in Zion shows the seriousness with which the authorities take the deniers of the crown. Strangers sent a white powder crown complaint letter to the state chancellery of the canton of Valais. The building was evacuated immediately. It later turned out that the powder was just starch.
The alleged deniers of the crown in Germany went much further. Last weekend in Berlin, strangers threw several Molotov cocktails for the first time at a building of the Robert Koch Institute, Germany’s highest federal authority for infectious diseases, and a few hours later an explosive device exploded in front of the facilities of the Leibniz Association, an association of research institutions.
No one was injured in the attacks. In a confession letter, fans demanded an immediate end to the crown’s measures and threatened further attacks. The commissioner of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office responsible for acts of far-right violence has taken over the investigation.
Mostly peaceful demonstration
There have yet been no comparable militant actions in Switzerland. When the crown deniers and the ideologues of the conspiracy marched yesterday in Bern and Zurich, the majority remained at peace. The atmosphere, however, was much more unpleasant than in similar demonstrations in recent months.
Opponents of the measures disrupted a demonstration by nurses on the Bundesplatz and occasionally fired firecrackers. In both Bern and Zurich, the police cracked down on them more severely and arrested several protesters.
Meanwhile, the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) has intervened, although the scene of conspiracy ideologues and crown deniers does not fall under its responsibility. “The FIS is in contact with the cantonal security authorities in this regard,” says spokeswoman Isabelle Graber.
The head of the intelligence service, Jean-Philippe Gaudin, currently looks after Switzerland’s security from his home: he tested positive in Corona last week.
