The Shoppi Tivoli in Spreitenbach in Aargau celebrates the 50th anniversary of the large shopping center from Thursday to Sunday. Those responsible have assured: A separate Covid-19 protection concept has been created for the anniversary weekend.

But Saturday’s anniversary celebration was not well received on social media. Many are bothered by the fact that such a public event is being organized at a time when corona cases are increasing dramatically across the country. One user wrote on Twitter: “Absolutely irresponsible. I don’t understand how the canton of Aargau can approve of something like this in a crown hot spot. The economy is once again above health. “

Protecting customers is important

As Managing Director Patrick Stäuble put it on request for 20 Minutes, the videos showed a snapshot: “This small crowd came as the table bomb went off on Saturday and the discount tickets were scattered.” Otherwise, the concept of protection, such as wearing masks and social distancing, was highly respected by visitors, Stäuble explains. “We also had 30 percent fewer customers throughout the week and on Saturdays than usual in the greater Shoppi Tivoli area.”

That there are such “snapshots” on Saturday, “is really very regrettable. It was never our goal to ignore the current situation in any way or make it worse, ”emphasizes the managing director. “The fact that a shit storm breaks out on social media is not easy for me or the whole team and it affects us all a lot.” Stäuble has now drawn the conclusions: on Sunday, table bombs will not be detonated, nor will the planned appearances on stage take place. “There is a normal Sunday for sale.”

No increased risk is observed

When the decision to hold the event was made six weeks ago, the number of cases was low and the situation was much more relaxed, explains Stäuble at 20 minutes. “With the concept of protection, we never saw a greater risk for the anniversary weekend.” Stäuble emphasizes: “The protection of customers and employees is very important to us.”

In addition, the intention was to offer tenants with this additional day the opportunity to be there for clients in this difficult situation and on the occasion of the anniversary. “We are all primarily concerned with the jobs in the 150 individual workshops. We are passionately committed to these and to our customers every day. “
