Easyjet feels ready for a long flight break. The low-cost airline has taken out two loans totaling around 500 million Swiss francs, it says.
Along with other measures, Easyjet’s liquid funds are expected to grow to the equivalent of CHF 4 billion. Therefore, the money should be sufficient even if the flight stop lasts nine months, CEO Johan Lundgren said.
Due to the corona virus pandemic, the entire Easyjet fleet is currently ashore. Lundgren did not dare predict exactly when flight operations could begin again. First, it should start with flights within individual countries, he said.
Easyjet has brought its own plane as collateral for the new loans. The company is also negotiating with leasing companies to buy Easyjet machines and lease them to the airline.
Higher ticket prices
In the winter semester until the end of March, Easyjet was able to reduce its seasonal loss in current businesses, although the coronavirus pandemic has also spread to Europe since February. Special items adjusted operating loss decreased from CHF 332 million in the year prior to CHF 223 to 248 million. Sales increased 1.6 percent to just under CHF 2.9 billion. This was also due to rising ticket prices.
On average it took Neutral currency, Easyjet per seat a good ten percent more than a year earlier. This more than made up for the more than seven percent decrease in passenger numbers.
