Thanks to the relief measures taken by the Swiss government, the crisis in the crown is not yet widely reflected in the bankruptcy and start-up figures. While the number of bankruptcies fell again in September, there were again more new businesses than the previous year.
In September 2020, 381 companies in Switzerland filed for bankruptcy, which corresponds to less than 16 percent compared to the same month the previous year, as the business information service Bisnode D&B announced on Monday. If bankruptcies for organizational reasons are added (OR 731b), the total number of company bankruptcies is 520, which also corresponds to 16 percent less.
Rise in eastern Switzerland
If we look at the period since the beginning of the year, Bisnode D&B has 2,760 bankruptcy proceedings open for operational insolvency. During the first nine months of the year, these have decreased by 21 percent. There was only an increase in Nidwalden and in the cantons of Appenzell Innerrhoden, Schaffhausen and Thurgau in eastern Switzerland. Including organizational bankruptcies, 4156 companies were affected, 16% less than the previous year.
However, when looking at the sectors, there are differences. The risk of insolvency was especially high in the wood and furniture industry, in construction, in the hotel industry and in handicrafts; on the other hand, particularly low in the areas of social and health services.
Almost 4,000 new companies
On the other hand, there were 3,791 new companies in September, 18 percent more than the previous year. Despite the close of spring, 33,573 more new businesses were launched in the first nine months than in the previous year. (pbe / SDA)
