The director of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), Anne Lévy, sees improvements in the coronavirus situation in Switzerland. “It seems like a turnaround,” he said in an interview with the “SonntagsBlick”.

“I’m sure we are going in the right direction at this point,” she continued. Lévy denies that Switzerland was insufficiently prepared for the second wave of coronavirus. But he admits that no one expected the numbers to rise so quickly. “No matter how well you prepare, in the end you are not ready for everything,” he explained. However, the health official is concerned that many citizens are apparently tired. “I’m afraid most of them wait too long and I hope it’s not Corona and that it happens,” he said.

Lévy also appealed to the population: “Get tested if you have symptoms.” Regarding a vaccination against the coronavirus, he did not rule out an obligation either. “Depending on the situation, it may make sense to be mandatory in special situations,” he explained. Based on the Epidemic Law, the federal government or the cantons could decide that certain functions can only be performed by vaccinated people, he said in this regard.
