Two days after her second place in the Super-G, Corinne Suter was hugely successful. After two silver and one bronze medals, he claimed his first world title. Suter is the first Swiss downhill world champion in 32 years and Maria Walliser.
(sda) Corinne Suter started the World Cup season properly after winning the Downhill and Super G World Cups last winter. In Val d’Isère, she won the first descent and was second in the second.
After that, however, things didn’t go according to plan. Suter found himself on the podium in the next three races. In previous years he would have started fighting, questioning a lot and doubting even more. But Suter no longer knows these problems. You can also cope with setbacks, fade non-optimal trips, and focus on the next task. At Cortina he managed to do this perfectly for the second time in 48 hours.
Super-G world champion Lara Gut-Behrami was twelve hundredths ahead of Corinne Suter at the final half time. In the last section of the route, Ticino lost almost half a second to the unleashed Schwyzerin, who had already made a strong final streak in Super-G. Gut-Behrami won the bronze medal this time.
Michelle Gisin also showed an excellent performance. As fifth, Obwalden lost the podium by just 13 hundredths. Jasmina Suter was ranked 18th.
Kira Weidle, the silver medalist, was also ready to go. The German had finished fifth twice in the World Cup downhill races this winter, so she was not one of the first to compete for a medal. She has been on the podium twice in the World Cup so far, and was third two years ago in the downhill races at Lake Louise and Garmisch.
