gam./dfr. · In the city of Zurich, the police had to move on Saturday night due to various incidents in District 1. In the Sechseläutenplatz area, two people were attacked by a larger group around 10 pm, as the city police in a message. With the help of SBB law enforcement employees, officers arrested a 16-year-old alleged perpetrator.

Later that night, a 38-year-old man was injured by a stab weapon at Stadelhoferplatz in Gottfried-Keller-Strasse during an argument with several people. They had to take him to the hospital. The police asked witnesses who could provide information about the incident in Gottfried-Keller-Strasse to report.

In recent weekends there have been repeated police operations around the Stadelhofen train station. Therefore, the SVP demanded in a statement Sunday that the city police reinstate surveillance cameras in the area. In previous incidents, this “suddenly calmed” the situation.

The fact that the cameras were disabled was “a fatal mistake,” writes the senior vice president. In fact, city police had announced in August 2019 that they had taken the lakeside promenade cameras out of service. This is because the situation has calmed down.

The SVP criticizes that protests, fights and stabbings in the Stadelhofen area, Sechseläutenplatz and the lake promenade are increasing again. Almost every weekend there are desert scenes. In addition, police officers are harassed, threatened and attacked when they are deployed to maintain security, peace and order. Such conditions are unsustainable. The SVP also calls for more “uniformed police presence” on weekends. Zurich city center should not become a loophole.

A month ago there were major riots around the Stadelhofen train station. The police arrested 18 youths. A civil patrol had previously observed a large group harassing passersby on Sechseläutenplatz. The policemen who were called to reinforce were shot with fireworks and objects were thrown at them.
