  • Vögele Shoes plans to close around 60 of its 160 stores in Switzerland.
  • The crown crisis and stiff competition in online commerce caused sales to collapse.
  • This is what Vögele’s boss Max Bertschinger explained to “Blick”.

Vögele Shoes has been seeing massive drops in sales for years. Now it threatens another deforestation. In the future, there should only be “about 100 good stores left,” says CEO Max Berschinger. There are currently around 160 stores.

The economic crisis caused by the pandemic caused Vögele’s sales to collapse. Vögele Shoes’ revenue was cut in half between the beginning of April and the end of June.

Giants like Zalando as competition

But above all, Vögele is also struggling with its online competition. For example, Zalando put Switzerland’s second-largest footwear retailer after Walder in dire straits.

Vögele Shoes has been in the hands of Polish footwear retailer CCC since 2018. The owners are now demanding a re-evaluation of the company.
