Swiss ice hockey mourns the loss of a great personality. Simon Schenk died Friday night after complications from heart surgery.

Schenk has had heart problems for years. In the summer of 2017, he had to undergo the first operation. He recovered and remained confident. Now a second heart operation was necessary, during which he suffered a stroke and subsequently died.

The emmental, 1976 with champion SC Langnau, first worked as a coach with Langnauer after his resignation. Later, Schenk took over the national team for the first time, bringing him to the 1986 World Cup in Eindhoven. A second era followed from 1995 to 1997.

Most recently employed as a television expert

Even after that, Schenk remained faithful to ice hockey as an official. As CEO and Sports Director of the ZSC Lions, he held more championship titles. He remained in the Lions organization until 2017 as head of sports at the GCK Lions. After voluntarily resigning from Zurich, he returned to his local Langnau club as an assistant in the youth area.

Schenk was also a politician. He began his first session in the National Council on November 28, 1994. He was primarily involved on the front lines when it came to sports at the Bundeshaus.

Most recently, the father of three children worked as an expert at the “My Sports” payment station.
