China threatens US government with arresting Americans
According to a newspaper report, the Chinese government has threatened the United States with the arrest of Americans in retaliation for accusing Chinese students with ties to the military.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing multiple sources, that Chinese government representatives had broadcast warnings to US government employees multiple times through different channels.
It is said that China sent the message that the charges against Chinese students in US courts would be ended or that the Americans could be charged with violating Chinese law.
Last month, the US State Department warned against travel to China because the Chinese government was using arbitrary arrests and travel bans as a “negotiating room” with foreign governments. Last July, the FBI arrested three Chinese accused of concealing their membership in the People’s Liberation Army.
All three defendants wanted to apply for visas for research at US facilities. The United States government has repeatedly accused China of stealing technology and military expertise to replace the United States as the leading financial and military power. (sda / reuters)
