He just wanted to take a little break and then move on. But the stop at the “Im Hegau Ost” rest area near Singen (D) ended in handcuffs for a Dutchman (34). The man was driving a car registered in Germany on September 29 when he stopped at Rasplatz. Instead of a relaxed rest to urinate, a control followed. German customs officials noticed the man. In an initial questioning, the man claimed that he had just arrived from Switzerland. The Dutchman replied that he did not have drugs, weapons and other prohibited items with him.
The customs officers were skeptical and wanted to take a look at the car. As soon as the trunk was opened, officers saw five large garbage bags. Inside: 40 kilograms of marijuana!
A criminal proceeding was initiated against the 34-year-old for violating the Narcotics Law. All the narcotics were seized by customs officials. The Dutchman was provisionally detained and brought before the Singen district court judge. At the request of the Konstanz prosecutor’s office, an arrest warrant was issued for the man. (hmh)
