Group A: Bayern react to a false start
Bayern Munich had won 13 matches in a row in the Champions League before their visit to Salzburg. The series threatened to break up against the Austrians. The defending champion converted an initial deficit to 2-1 before the break. Salzburg drew in the 66th minute through Masaya Okugawa. Subsequently, Swiss substitute Noah Okafor missed a promising opportunity to lead the hosts. On the other side, Jérôme Boateng, Leroy Sané, Robert Lewandowksi and Lucas Hernandez clashed for the clear 6-2 victory for Munich.
Lokomotiv Moscow celebrated a 1-1 win at home against favorite Atlético de Madrid. José Giménez gave the visitors a well-deserved lead in the 18th minute with a header. In the 25th minute, Anton Mirantschuk leveled for the Russians with a penalty.
Group D: Liverpool don’t give Atalanta a chance
Liverpool FC are perfectly on their way to the ‘premier class’. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team defeated Atalanta Bergamo 5-0 and has the maximum number of points on the account after 3 rounds. Against the team with Swiss national team player Remo Freuler, Diogo Jota made sure things were clear with a double pack before the break. In the second half, Liverpool played frantically. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota with their third goal made the victory out of control perfect. For Salah it was CL’s 21st goal. He caught up with Liverpool’s most successful player to date, Steven Gerrard.
Ajax Amsterdam celebrated their first victory in a 2-1 away game against Midtjylland. The Dutch got off to a great start and took the lead after 50 seconds thanks to Antony. Dusan Tadic increased in the 13th minute. Anders Dreyer was able to cut a bit later, but it wasn’t enough for the Danes.
Group C: Manchester City win dull
Like Bayern Munich and Liverpool, Manchester City are there too after 3 rounds with a clean slate. In the 3-0 home win against Olympiacos Piraeus, however, Pep Guardiola’s side showed a solid performance. After Ferran Torres’ 1-0 win, the Greeks had several chances to equalize at halftime 2. It was only in the 81st minute that Gabriel Jesús made the decision. João Cancelo marked the final result.
Porto also defeated Olympique de Marseille 3-0. Moussa Marega, Sergio Oliveira and Luis Díaz scored for the Portuguese. Jesús Corona did the preparatory work for all the doors.
