Dejan Sorgic, who grew up in the canton of Zug and trained at FC Luzern, is returning from Auxerre (Ligue 2) to the Central Swiss Super League club. Tomorrow Friday he will train with the FCL.
FC Luzern’s press release is surprising: former FCL junior player Dejan Sorgic will move from AJ Auxerre to his training club in Central Switzerland. Sorgic, who comes from Serbia and was born in Croatia, signed a three-year contract with FCL on Thursday until June 30, 2023.
The 31-year-old, born in Zug, will train for the first time tomorrow Friday with coach Fabio Celestini’s team.
38 goals in Super League with FC Thun
Dejan Sorgic played 94 top-division appearances for FC Thun between 2016 and 2019, scoring 38 goals for the Bernese Oberland and providing 12 assists. The 1.77 meter tall attacker was previously active in SC Kriens and FC Schaffhausen. He made his Super League debut 13.5 years ago, in early April 2007, in the 4-1 loss in Aarau to FC Luzern with coach Ciriaco Sforza. He played a total of twelve times in the Swiss elite class for Blau-Weiss.
“With Dejan Sorgic, we have signed a player who can not only help us sportily, but also has a strong connection to the club and the region,” FCL sports director Remo Meyer said in the press release. “Dejan has shown during his career that he has a very good scoring instinct and therefore we are confident that he will also show his dangerousness in his former homeland.”
For Dejan Sorgic, the transfer to FC Luzern closes a circle: “For me it was always an option to return to the FCL and I am happy that now it has worked. I have always had a strong connection with the region and the club and I am convinced that I can help the team in sporting terms.
The fifth new signing in this transfer window
After Louis Schaub (on loan from 1. FC Köln with option to buy), Yvan Alounga (FC Aarau), Samuel Alabi (FC Ashdod / ISR) and Alex Carbonell (FC Valencia), Dejan Sorgic is the fifth newcomer to FC Luzern. After a year on loan at FC Emmen (NED), Filip Ugrinic returned to his training club in Lucerne in early June.
