Mauro Caviezel does not let himself be stopped by injuries. Six days after winning the Super-G at Val Gardena in Val d’Isère, the Graubünden rider finished second behind Norwegian Aleksander Kilde.
Caviezel missed the victory at Saslong by twelve hundredths and was nine hundredths faster than compatriot Kjetil Jansrud, third-placed from Kilde. Caviezel not only feels the aftermath of the Achilles tendon tear in his left foot in June. The broken left index finger also worries him. He suffered this injury on Sunday in the descent in Val d’Isère.
The next best Swiss are Marco Odermatt, Beat Feuz and the amazing Urs Kryenbühl in places 9-11. Feuz is one of only two Swiss who have already won the Super-G in Val Gardena. Feuz won nine years ago. Didier Cuche had organized the premiere four winters earlier.
Kilde celebrated his first win this winter, his fifth at the World Cup. With his success, the overall winner of the World Cup last season polished the impressive record of the Norwegians in Val Gardena. In the 14 Super-G’s en route to the 1970 World Cup, the Norwegians were eight times the winner.
