Car crashes into a wall when escaping from the police: two dead and four injured

A driver (31) escaped a police check on Monday night near Düdingen FR. A short time later, he hit a wall with his car and was fatally injured. A 30-year-old passenger also died, as announced by the police of the canton of Friborg. Four other occupants of the car were injured: two 19-year-old men, a 17-year-old teenager and a 28-year-old woman. All were taken to hospitals. All the victims come from the canton of Friborg.

When the 31-year-old driver ignored the police checkpoint, he nearly ran over a police officer. An accident occurred between Düdingen FR and Laupen BE, near the village of Bundtels.

First aid provided immediately

The two patrol cars involved in the check initially chased the getaway car, but quickly lost sight of it. When they got to Bundtels, the car had caught fire in the engine compartment. Police removed the victims from the car and immediately gave them first aid.

A Rega helicopter and six ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident. The 31-year-old driver and 30-year-old passenger died despite resuscitation attempts at the scene. The prosecutor has opened an investigation.
