(pw) In consultation with the Lucerne government, the department of health and social has decided that the winter sports areas can continue to operate their chair lifts and chair lifts, as well as their ski slopes from February 8 to 28, 2021. The canton writes this in a press release. All tracks can also be opened, including freeride.

However, the following conditions still apply:

  • There is a general capacity restriction for guests, which is 66 percent. (The value is based on the number of guests on peak days).
  • The toboggan runs created by the mountain railway operators remain closed until further notice due to the risk of injury.
  • It is not possible to consume it in restaurants, but there are offers to go. Terrace seating cannot be provided for to-go consumption. Also, there is still a ban on alcohol.
  • The windows of the gondolas and the wind protection hatches of the chairlifts should always be open if possible.

The railways, which serve a developmental role in terms of public transport, were already open and walking trails and cross-country ski trails are still available to the population.

The location allows to relax the requirements

Health and Social Director Guido Graf is quoted in the press release as follows: “The epidemiological situation is currently relatively stable. The number of cases, the reproductive value and the positivity rate have decreased. Furthermore, the operators of the winter sports areas have so far adhered to the protection concepts and the cooperation with the Sörenberg ski and snowboard school was exemplary. Therefore, it is responsible for making the requirements for the operation of winter sports areas more flexible. “

With this agreement, the governing council once again pursued the objective of ordering the measures in the strictest way necessary to limit the risk of contagion and deaths and in the most moderate way possible to make social and economic life possible even in the current pandemic, Graf said.

Winter sports enthusiasts must adhere to the measures, even when riding public transport.

Government Councilor Graf appeals to winter sports enthusiasts: “In order not to continue spreading the new coronavirus, I urge you to comply with federal and cantonal measures. Wear a mask, keep your distance, and wash your hands regularly. I ask that you not only take these measures into account in winter sports areas, but also particularly when traveling by public transport. “

Additional steps will be taken at the end of February.

The epidemiological situation is in constant analysis and, depending on the development, it is possible to withdraw the license at any time, the communication from the canton continues. The governing council will discuss the procedure after February 28, 2021 at the request of the cantonal management staff towards the end of February.
